Sicily is a winemaker’s paradise. Ancient but prolific, it is one of Italy’s most progressive wine industries. More vineyards sprawl across its coastal plains than in any other region. Their vines, acclimated to the heat, thrive in a way that vines in other regions do not.
Once known for its powerful bulk wines, Moscato and Marsala (the latter of which is experiencing an elegant comeback after its reputation was tarnished by its overuse in cooking), Sicily has shifted its focus to lighter white and red wines, exchanging voluminous production for superior quality.
